Marty Hassler Varsity Softball Field Dugout Dedication
On Thursday April 28th at 5:00pm, the District had the opportunity to recognize and honor Marty Hassler, someone who has been a part of the Twin Valley School District sports landscape for quite some time. Marty was a teacher, coach, Athletic Director, and bus driver for various sports teams. He also coached and drove the bus for the 1977 Girls State Champion Softball Team and drove the bus for the 2015 Girls State Champion Field Hockey Team. In addition, Marty has driven for Girls Lacrosse, Girls Basketball, and other sports teams over the years and has become the preferred driver. In fact, Marty learned after the 2015 Girls Field Hockey State Championship Game that the girls wanted him driving them, even if that meant a traditional school bus over a coach bus. Marty was also one of the early Athletic Hall of Fame inductees along with his daughter, Lana Smith. Coaches and student athletes of past and present spoke about Marty’s impact on their lives, and the entire event was a testament to the lives Marty has touched in special ways over the past 50 plus years. Therefore, as a result of Marty’s impact on District athletics and on behalf the Board, Administration, staff, coaches, community, and most importantly the students and athletes, it is appropriate that we decided to honor him by dedicating the Varsity Softball Field Dugout in his name and recognizing him with a plaque inside it.
