Welcome Back Twin Valley School District Families!

On behalf of the Board, Administration, and all District employees, we are extremely excited to have students return to school in just over a week. So many employees in the District have worked tirelessly this summer in preparation for the return of students, and we are confident that this year will be another great one in the Twin Valley School District. Therefore, in anticipation of a terrific 2022-2023 school year, we would like to provide some updates on the work of the District and what you can expect when doors open for students on Monday August 29th.

Superintendent’s Office

Superintendent goals for the 22-23 school year are Board-approved and accessible on the District website at https://www.tvsd.org/departments/superintendent. For this school year, we will be focusing on curriculum and instruction, student services, athletics and extracurricular activities opportunities and participation, and student achievement.

Human Resources

We are excited about five administrators joining our District team: Dr. Diane Van Bodegraven (REC Principal), Mrs. Courtney Maguire (HS Assistant Principal), Mrs. Taylor Parker (Director of Athletics & School Involvement), Mrs. Sara Kilgore (Transportation Supervisor), and Ms. Shelbie Morton (Business Office Administrative Assistant). In addition, we have had a busy summer filling vacancies at all five of our schools and are excited about our new professional staff becoming members of the Twin Valley School District family.

Curriculum, Instruction, & Information Technology - Department Highlights

  • Twin Valley Virtual Academy (TVVA) – We have switched our virtual content provider from Edmentum to Pearson and are focused on further integrating our TVVA students into their home school while still striving to bring back as many students from cyber charter schools as possible.
  • K-8 English Language Arts (ELA) – We are continuing to emphasize consistent expectations and resources for Tier 1, Tier 2, and Tier 3 learning in ELA and are further exploring decisions around what our core resource will be long-term.
  • K-12 Mathematics – We engaged in an elementary math pilot during the second half of the 21-22 school year and have made the collaborative decision to remain with Everyday Mathematics as our core resource moving forward. In addition, we will be doing a full-year math pilot at TVMS using Illustrative Mathematics and a full-year math pilot at TVHS primarily using resources from Pearson and Houghton Mifflin Harcourt (HMH).
  • Information Technology Upgrades – By the end of the Fall, we will be transitioning away from Swift K12 as our mass notification system and transitioning to Blackboard Connect. We have also updated our District servers for better functionality and have done some laptop refreshes and access point enhancements. As well, we have upgraded our security camera system to Solink.

Public Relations

We are very pleased to welcome Mrs. Amelia Krotee from the Berks County Intermediate Unit (BCIU) as our contracted Part-Time Public Relations Specialist. Together with Amelia, the District will be working to do the following: enhance its social media footprint to better promote the great successes in the District, focus on consistent, common messaging to families and the

community, and promote positivity overall on our communication through the website, mass notification system, newsletter, and social media channels.

Student Services Department Highlights

We look forward to our K-12 emotional support programming, which starts this school year. The elementary classroom will be at TVEC, and there will also be a classroom at TVMS and TVHS. In addition, we will be taking the best components of the BRIDGES and STEP classrooms at TVHS and developing one classroom called the Raider Academy. As well, we will be using recently received grant funds through the Pennsylvania Commission on Crime and Delinquency (PCCD), and we intend to use those monies on physical security improvements and mental health supports.

Buildings & Grounds

The District is entering Phase II of its Guaranteed Energy Savings Act (GESA) Project that is upgrading HVAC systems at all five buildings. The building work focused on during Phase I was at TVEC, TVMS, and TVHS. Work will finish up at those buildings in Phase II coupled with a focus on HVAC improvements at HBEC and REC.

As a new school year starts, we are committed to getting things “back to normal” in the Twin Valley School District. That starts with messages of enthusiasm and excitement from the staff who cannot wait to see you. Therefore, please look for a mass notification message from the Superintendent’s Office on Friday August 26th with a link to a video filled with special messages.

In closing, we have a committed Board, devoted Administration, dedicated staff, and supportive community. Combined, that is a recipe for another successful school year and one that fills all of us with Raider Pride. Thank you for allowing us the privilege of educating your children. It is something we take seriously each and every day.
