From the Desk of the Assistant Superintendent

Since arriving in Twin Valley School District in January, I have found everyone, from administrators, school board members, and teachers, to students, parents, and the community in general to be especially welcoming. You have all made my transition to the district a very easy and satisfying one. It is evident why everyone is so committed to this district. There is clearly support at all levels, and even in the midst of difficult times, those in the school community and beyond have demonstrated their willingness to work together not only to maintain, but to expand the excellent reputation Twin Valley School District enjoys.

In a little more than six months, I have learned a great deal about the dedication and expertise of those who work in our district. Our administrators and teachers extend themselves on a regular basis in order to offer an education that will help our students be ready for success in the 21st Century. Despite the numerous tests and regulations we must deal with every day, it is evident that Twin Valley’s educators dedicate themselves to preparing our students for a world beyond the tests--- one in which they will find and create meaning.

As I look ahead to my first full school year in Twin Valley, I am excited about the possibilities. Various committees of teachers have been working on revisiting curriculum within the four core areas of math, science, social studies, and English to strengthen the instruction we bring to our students. In all of our schools, teachers and administrators continue to develop meaningful assessments and to examine data closely in an effort to inform effective instruction. The importance of technology continues to be recognized and integrated into daily instruction as well.

Throughout the year, I will use this space to provide updates on the progress we are making with our curriculum and instruction, and to bring you other news that may be of interest. If at any time you have questions or would like to have additional information about the district’s curriculum, please contact me by e-mail at mkatona@tvsd.org, or by phone at 610-286-8550. I look forward to continuing my work with our administrators, teachers, students, and the Twin Valley community.
